BJP condemns shoe attack on Punjab CM

AAP and Congress want to spoil the atmosphere of peace in Punjab: Vineet Joshi

Punjab BJP today condemned the shoe attack on state Chief Minister Sardar Prakash Singh Badal during an election campaign in Lambi. Taking a strong note of the incident, state party secretary, Vineet Joshi said, “This is an uncivilized and atrocious behavior which goes against the basic ethos of our country. Sardar Prakash Singh Badal is the senior-most and the most respected leader of the country. He is the only leader who has served Punjab as a CM on four occasions. Our culture teaches us to respect our elders, not dishonor them”.

Indicating that the incident was politically motivated, Joshi said, “Actually, the Congress and AAP want to spoil the atmosphere of peace in Punjab by inciting people. Bhagwant Mann has been openly seen provoking people saying ‘Inkey to pathar hi padenge, vote nahi (they will get only stones, not votes). Sometimes he says, ‘Dala to dala hota hai, pata nahi kahan se chala hota hai’ (Stone is stone, who knows where it came from). Such statements are instigating. Capt. Amarinder Singh talks of picking up ‘lathis’ and Kejriwal’s statements always have been inflammatory”.

Seeking strict action against leaders making such provocative statements from the Election Commission, Joshi also demanded that the conspirators of the shoe attack should also be exposed. Hinting that some extremist elements might also be behind the incident, Joshi said, “They may have acted on AAP’s directions.”
