Vijay Sampla- From a “Laborer” to a “Union Minister”vijay-sampla-mos

Vijay Sampla, though his birth place is Delhi but he was brought up since childhood in   Village “Sofi Pind” in Jalandhar and he belonged to a very ordinary family having no link with politics. He went off Saudi Arab in his young age to earn living for his family  consequent upon death of his father. There he worked as a plumber, electrician, sanitary and other civil works. One incident that happened there changed his view point towards life. Once one of the workers spoiled toilet seat by his excrete. Sampla told this fact to his supervisor and refused to work until toilet gets cleaned up. Supervisor said the same to engineer and ultimately all decided not to work until the toilet gets cleaned up. In the meantime, the owner of the company (Saudi Sheikh) came in his luxury car and asked the reason why all are not working. All said him that work will not be started until the excrete gets cleaned up. The Sheikh said sampla to bring plastic carry bag and wrapped this plastic on his hand and wiped the excrete away. Thereafter he sarcastically remarked that such approach of Indians is the reason that they are workers here and we are the owners though nature has given great natural wealth to India. This incident changed view point of Sampla and he started every work with a positive approach thereafter. After 11 years of work at UAE Sampla returned back to his native place and started his own hardware shop there. In 1996 he was inspired by movement of “Swadeshi Jagran Manch” and started participating in its activities. Inspired by RSS, Sampla started a very effective “Shakha of Sangh”. Seeing his dedication and unique qualities of organization & leadership the then “Sangh Pracharak” requested his elder brother to allow Sampla in full time active activities of BJP who happily accepted and allowed him to work for the party. In 1997 he joined BJP as an ordinary worker. In 1998 he became “Sarpach” of Sofi Pind (First BJP Sarpanch in Doaba region of Punjab). Thereafter he became president of BJP Jalandhar Cantt. Mandal. In 2001 he was appointed as State President of BJP SC Morcha. In 2003 he became General Secretary of State unit of BJP and in 2007 he was appointed as State Vice President of the State Unit. During 2008-12 he remained Chairman of Khadi & Village Industries Board Punjab and during his tenor Khadi Board’s name was recommended for President’s Award. Therafter he also remained Chairman of Forest Development Corporation, Punjab. Thereafter in 2014 party elected him as MP candidate from Hoshiarpur’s reserved constituency and he won this election against Congress’s Party’s high command identified his unique qualities and he was given place in cabinet of Modi’s Govt. as Minister of State in Social Justice & Empowerment Department. Thereafter in 2015 he was also appointed as State President of State Unit keeping in view the forthcoming assembly elections in 2017. Besides boosting up enthusiasm amongst workers his appointment has clearly signaled that BJP is for upliftment of “Dalit” community which is almost 1/3 rd in the State. His appointment will also act as an deterrent to leading coalition partner “Akali Dal” for any tie up with BSP as BSP will weaken further in the State with appointment of such a strong and dynamic “Dalit” leader of BJP.
