Haryana has announced Rs 12000 per acre compensation for burnt crop, Punjab should follow suit: BJPहरियाणा ने जली हुई फसल के लिए 12000 रुपए प्रति एकड़ मुआवज़े का ऐलान किया, पंजाब सरकार भी उठाए ऐसे कदम: भाजपा

The Punjab unit of Bharatiya Janata Party today asked state Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh to immediately announce a monetary compensation/ relief of rupees twenty thousand per acre as promised in his election manifesto to hundreds of farmers whose crop got burnt in Punjab.

In a press release issued today party state vice-president Harjit Singh Grewal, state secretary Vineet Joshi and state president, BJP Kissan Morcha, Sukhpal Singh Nanu said that as per the Punjab Government records, more than two thousand eight hundred acres of wheat crop spanning around in twenty districts of Punjab got burnt, but the figure is higher than that.

BJP leaders asked Captain Amarinder Singh to ‘understand the gravity of the situation’ as not only the family of the farmer whose crop is burnt is affected but farm labor and especially farm servants- known as naukars/ siris- have to bear the brunt. “Traditionally, these naukars/ siris are dependent upon the grains, etc. given by the farmers. If timely action is not taken it may lead to suicide by farmers and farm labourers”, the leaders said.

“Ideally, Capt. Amarinder Singh should take into consideration the present MSP on wheat and announce rupees Eight Crore relief to the affected farmers. This step will mitigate the miseries of farmers and the families dependent upon them. As per a study around 18 quintal per acre is the produce of wheat and the MSP is Rupees 1625 per quintal, so, total amount of wheat lost is little over rupees Eight crore”, the statement said.

The BJP said that Punjab should take cue from neighboring state of Haryana whose agriculture minister OP Dhankar has announced rupees twelve thousand per acre compensation for the farmers who suffered heavy loss after their wheat crop got burnt. “Best part is that the total amount, if we go by Agriculture department record, will three crores thirty nine lac and seventy two thousand rupees, which is not a big amount for state government”, suggested the BJP.
